Welcome to the library at St Peter’s Primary Catholic School! At St. Peter’s, we believe that reading for pleasure is both vital for learning and an important life skill. Our library contains a wide variety of up-to-date children's books, both fiction and nonfiction, covering a wide range of interests and reading abilities. We'd like all the children to have the very best opportunity to make the most of what our library has to offer, so here is some information that we hope will be useful:
Loan conditions
All children are allowed to borrow two books at a time. In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, this will consist of one ‘Practice Book’ and one book to share with their families. Each book can be borrowed for a maximum of 28 days, but we encourage the children to exchange their books regularly to develop good library habits. We are glad to renew loans if you wish, unless another child has requested the book.
Our Libresoft on-line system is easy to use and can be accessed via the Internet from your home. The site has opportunities to search for titles and authors and to leave reviews of books so that others can read about them.
Caring for library books
Please encourage your children to look after their library books. Try not to tear or crease the pages, handle the books with clean hands, don’t bend the spines back and – most important of all - keep books away from leaking water bottles.
Lost or damaged books
Children with an overdue loan will not be allowed to take new library books home until the overdue one is returned or paid for. However, they will still be able to read books from their well-stocked classroom bookshelves. If you have any queries regarding the library, please contact your child's teacher, or the school librarians, Mrs More.
Reading at Home
As ever, it is still important that your child continues to read, both alone and to you, as much as possible. It is never too late to develop a love of reading. Reading is expected daily at home for 10 minutes and is to be recorded in your child’s reading record. Try to build this into your daily routine and have a quiet, comfortable space your child (and you) can read in. It is so important for your child to both read and hear texts.
