Netball Festival - Wednesday 17th March 2019
On Wednesday afternoon children from Year 3 and 4 participated in the East Grinstead Netball Festival at the Sports Club. Hosted by Sackville School, their Year 8 Sports Leaders led the children in a range of netball skills and then umpired a series of training matches against some other local schools. The children showed great improvement over the afternoon. Well done!
Hockey - Wednesday 6th March
On Wednesday a team of hockey players from Years 4 and 5 participated in the Quicksticks hockey competition at the Sports Club. After some tough initial matches, the teams were split into 2 larger leagues. Our A team finished in a very impressive 4th position overall. While our C and B team finished in 5th and 6th in their representative leagues. So proud of the young team and their determination in each and every game. They supported each other brilliantly and improved throughout the afternoon. Special thank you to those parents who were able to help throughout the day.
Swimming - Monday 4th March 2019
Well done to our swimming team who attended the East Grinstead Schools Swimming Gala on Monday evening. The team participated in a number of relay and individual events in the 25m pool. They supported each other brilliantly and finished in a very respectable 9th place overall. If you want to find out a bit more regarding The EG Swim Club there are some leaflets outside the office.
Netball - Wednesday 27th February 2019
Huge congratulations to the Netball Team who continued their unbeaten run on Wednesday afternoon. They were up against a tough Ashurstwood side who going into the fixture were also unbeaten. The first quarter was extremely tight with lots of strong attacks and brilliant defending, we were able to pull away in the second quarter and then went onto win the match 6:1. This was a fantastic result and well earnt by the entire team. Well done!
Badminton - Thursday 14th February
Yesterday, a group of Year 3 and Year 4 children went to the Triangle in Burgess Hill to participate in Mid Sussex Badminton Festival with some other schools. The children had fun using the badminton rackets and practised their hitting and aiming skills by using shuttlecocks and also big fluffy pompoms. All of the children were great ambassadors for the school and showed great perseverance, patience and teamwork. Some of their favourite parts are described below.
Netball - Wednesday 6th February 2019
Another victorious night of Netball on Wednesday evening as both teams held onto their unbeaten run. The A team played a friendly against Turners Hill as their original fixture against Blackwell was cancelled. The team won their match 5-0 while the B-Team played against a strong St Mary's B Team. St Peter's came out on top with some brilliant shooting and crucial interceptions and won the game 3-0. Well done to both of the teams.
Crew Training - Wednesday 6th February 2019
Welcome to our Year 5 Sports Crew who started their Sports Leadership journey on Wednesday morning at their first training session. They worked alongside the Sports Leaders from Imberhorne designing different activities which could be adapted at school. Well done to the group, they were fab.
Gymnastics - Friday 1st March 2019
We had a great morning at St Paul’s Catholic college, Burgess Hill at the Key Steps Gymnastics competition. After braving the snow the team competed in 3 elements: Body management sequence, vault jump and an individual floor sequence. They all did so well and gave 100% effort in everything they did. A particular strength was how well they supported each other as a team was lovely to see. We were very proud of you all, well done. The competition continued through the day and results will be released on Monday.
Inclusion Sports Festival - Monday 28th January 2019
On Monday morning a group of children from Year 4 and Year 5 participated in an Inclusive Sports Festival at the Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill. The Festival involved the children taking part in 5 matches against other schools in both Boccia and New Age Kurling. They all improved so much during the morning and won many of their matches. Well done to all of the children, you were a credit to the school.
Basketball Tuesday 9th October 2018
A team of children from Year 6 attended a Basketball Festival at Sackville on Tuesday afternoon. The team enjoyed a range of skill practices in areas such as shooting, dribbling and passing lead by Year 10 Sports Leaders from Sackville School. After this they were then able to put their skills into practice with a mini tournament amongst other East Grinstead schools. The team were brilliant, they listen and trained hard and applied their new skills very successfully into matches winning impressively 7 out of 8 matches played. This was all brilliant practice for a competitive tournament early next year. Well done to the team, you represented St. Peter’s school brilliantly!Junior Sports Day 2018

Ruby Donovan
It was been amazing to see this incredible young sports woman develop during her time at St Peter’s. Regardless of the event and the skills required, this person is guaranteed to give 110% with clear focus, drive and determination in anything which is asked of her. This person is not only hugely talented in so many sporting areas but she competes to the very best of her ability every time.
Ruby Donovan your 800m sprint victory at Area Sports this year will go down in history, we will never forget your determined ‘game face’ and you are an incredible team player much respected by all of your team mates.
Edwin Lerat
This young sportsman is such a brilliant ambassador for the school, not only is he one of our award winning Sport Crew but he has played a huge part in many school victories.
Regardless of the sporting event, Edwin competes with clear focus, determination and the utmost sportsmanship. He is a hugely respected amongst his teammates and is so versatile across sports and positions. He has made so much progress in his sport this year and has gone from strength.
Alfie Campbell Award
Alfie Campbell plaque is awarded to a child in Year 6 who has worked above and beyond throughout the year. This year the award went to Verity as she has put in exceptional effort in all areas of the curriculum. She has used all the resources that she has had access to in the classroom, asked for help when needed and worked at home to make improvements. She acted on all the feedback offered to her to improve the quality of her work. She is an inspirational example of how dedication to your learning can have such wonderful rewards. She is a very worthy winner!

KS1 Multi Skills Festival - Wednesday 11th July 2018
We had a brilliant afternoon at Imberhorne on Wednesday for the KS1 Multi Skills festival. The new Year 5 crew were able to further develop their leadership skills as they ran activities for around 150 children throughout the afternoon. Well done to our Year 2 children who participated brilliantly and had lots of fun.
Area Sports - Wednesday 20th June 2018
On Wednesday afternoon 22 of our children from KS2 took part in Area Sports at Sackville School. The team were brilliant, demonstrating such determination and team spirit. The all tried their very best and we finished in an impressive 2nd place. Missing out on the first place position by only 6 points. Well done everyone.
Sports Crew on Meridian FM
We recently heard that we have successful won a ‘Leading the Way’ award in recognition of our fabulous Sports Crew and their achievements this academic year. We are so proud of our Crew! Amazingly as a result of this achievement we have been invited onto Meridian FM next Wednesday as part of their Health Hour. Some of the Crew will be on air between 10.15am and 11.00am talking about how we use Sports Leaders at St. Peter’s to increase the physical activity levels of our children.
Stoolball
Well done to the group of Year 6’s who took part in the Stoolball tournament at Sackville on Tuesday. They worked brilliantly as a team supporting each other throughout. They scored some impressive 4’s and 6’s across the boundary and fielded really well. The team finished in 7th position overall after some very closely contested matches

Catholic Schools Cup - Year 6 - Wednesday 23rd May
On Wednesday Year 6 were asked to take part in the Catholic Schools Cup at the Sussex Football Association Headquarters in Lancing. There were 9 other schools taking part and we were able to have 4 teams with 2 boys and 2 girls in each team. Those of us who did not want to play were journalists for the afternoon. Each team played 8 matches of 6 minutes, there was some great football and team work throughout the afternoon. Emilio was the first to score for St. Peter’s with a great goal and Dylan was blocking balls played by the other teams throughout the afternoon. There were some great saves both on and off the pitch! Two extra awards were to be presented – the awards were given to the players that showed the true spirit of the afternoon, playing fairly, being helpful and cheerful, showing the true spirit of sportsmanship. One of the awards was given to Kristina as she played well with a smile on her face, she was always pleasant to her own team and the players from the other teams, Kristina represented the school perfectly.
Pop Lacrosse - Monday 21st May
On Monday 21st May two teams from Year 5 took part in the Pop Lacrosse Tournament at East Grinstead Sports Club. After some training drills from coaches from East Grinstead Lacrosse Club and England Lacrosse the teams took part in a tournament. We were very proud to finish in 3rd and 4th place overall competing across schools from across Mid Sussex. Well done everyone!
East Grinstead Tag Rugby Tournament - April 2018
Huge congratulations to our Rugby players who last week took part in the East Grinstead Tag Rugby Tournament at the Rugby Club. Despite the awful weather conditions the players showed tremendous determination and team spirit. They showed great improvement throughout the afternoon as they played against tough opposition from Turness Hill, Copthorne and Estcots. Well done everyone. Dance Festival - Wednesday 25th April
Well done to the Year 4 dancers who performed at Sackville School on Wednesday afternoon. They were brilliant and a credit to the school. Having spent several weeks preparing for this festival the children performed beautifully and did so with their usual St. Peter’s charm and grace. Well done children, we‘re all very proud of you.
Netball Festival - Wednesday 14th March
On the 14th March a group of Year 3 and 4 children were invited to take part in a Netball Festival at the Sports Centre. The group really enjoyed the afternoon organised by Sackville School. The Sports Leaders from Sackville organised a range of skill based activities before the children were able to compete in some friendly matches. Well done to all the children they all improved over the afternoon.
Cross Country - Friday 9th March
Last Friday our Year 5 Cross Country team battled against difficult conditions in the Annual Brambletye Cross Country Relay event. It was a great afternoon with such determination from all the runners. The gruelling course saw each runner tackling 1 Mile each across the picturesque landscape. Despite the difficult conditions the team all did their very best, with great team spirit from you all. Well done.
Hockey - Wednesday 7th March
We had a great day on Wednesday at the Sports Club, with 2 teams in action, all the children showed real improvement during the day with the A-team narrowly missing out on potential qualification to the area finals finishing in second place purely on goal difference. Despite this set back, the team remained unbeaten through all their following matches. The players from both teams alongside our sports journalist were brilliant ambassadors for the school demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, determination and team.
Swimming - Monday 5th March
Well done to all of the swimmers who took part in the Swimming Gala at the Kings Centre on Monday evening. They all did really well with some very challenging events and against some tough competition. Their team spirit was highly commendable and they all did their very best. We are very proud of you all and finished in a respectable 9th place.The Daily Mile - Wednesday 28th February
We are very excited to have introduced to the children our new all-weather track last week with great success. Through the use of our School Sports Premium we have been able to install the track as part of the ‘The Daily Mile’ initiative. It will be used both by class teachers during the school day and open for independent use during playtime and lunchtimes. We are supporting the Chief Medical Officers recommend 60 minutes a day of physical activity.
Netball - Wednesday 7th March
On Wednesday afternoon both the A team and B team were in action in the finale of the East Grinstead Primary School Netball League. The B team played a difficult match against a strong Halsford Park team. They finished their league in an impressive 2nd position out of 9 teams. It has been lovely to watch the team progress and improve over the last 5 meetings.
Our A Team were in action against St. Mary’s. This was such as closely contested match with the league title at stake. The nail biting match was still level going into the final quarter but unfortunately a run of a few last minute goals left us behind. The team were brilliant, they all gave 100% and did their very best. We finished in league in a very impressive 2nd place. Well done to all of the Netball players we are very proud of your achievements.

We were so proud of our Netball players on Wednesday afternoon! An incredible 4 wins out of 4 matches! The A team continuing their unbeaten run with a 6-2 win against a challenging Ashurstwood side. While the B Team won their matches 8-0, 5-1 & 7-0. Well done!
Netball - Wednesday 7th February
Congratulations to both of our Netball teams who were in action on Wednesday afternoon in the third round of the Netball league. The A-team continued their unbeaten season with a very strong 8-1 win against Blackwell A. The B team were also victorious against West Hoathly, 3-1 but unfortunately lost in their second game against a very strong Ashurst Wood B team. Despite some very cold conditions both teams were fantastic and can look ahead now to the fourth round matches after half term.’
Key Steps Gymnastics - Friday 2nd February
We had a brilliant morning at St Paul’s Catholic College on Friday at the Key Steps Gymnastics competition. The team accompanied by coaches Millie and Chloe performed in three different areas; the vault, body management and a floor routine. The Year 5’s were a true credit to the school demonstrating outstanding team spirit, determination and resilience. We are very proud of them all. Well done!

Football - Wednesday 31st January
Wednesday night saw both our A team and B team in action. The A team played first against Estcots and were unlucky to come away with a loss. While unfortunately the B team also lost to a very strong Halsford Park side. We will now look ahead to fixtures after half term.
Basketball Festival - Wednesday 24th January
On Wednesday 24th January in the afternoon 7 children from Year 6 represented St Peter’s at the East Grinstead Basketball Festival, held at Imberhorne School.
All the children were fabulous. They listened carefully to the sports leaders from Sackville and all improved over the course of the afternoon. They rotated around 4 different stations initially exploring passing, shooting, dribbling and the rules of Basketball and then had the opportunity to apply their skills in some short games.
Mid Sussex Cross Country Finals 2018
Congratulations to our 6 cross country runners who competed in the Mid Sussex Cross Country Finals on Wednesday 17th January in the afternoon at East Court. They ran their very best in some very challenging conditions. Our mainly Year 5 time will certainly be something to look out for next year. Well done to you all, we are very proud of you.
Mid Sussex Sports Hall Athletics - Wednesday 10th January
On Wednesday 10th January 2018 in the afternoon 22 children represented the school at the Mid Sussex Sports Hall Athletics Finals. We are extremely proud of all of the children. They all demonstrated excellent determination to do their very best with lots of personal best achievements in a range of different events. They supported one another brilliantly and were an absolute credit to the school. We are very proud to have finished 4th overall across the whole Mid Sussex area.
Football League Round 2
Both our A Teams and B Team Footballers were in action on Wednesday evening in the second round of the East Grinstead Primary Schools Football League. We are so proud of both teams who showed great effort and determination throughout their matches. The B Team were very unlucky with the result of their 1-0 defeat to Felbridge B. The A-team came away winners in their first very close match against The Meads A and unfortunately narrowly missed out on points against St Mary’s A losing 2-1. Well done to all of the players for trying your very best.Crawley Town Football Club School of the Week November 2017
It was so lovely to see so many of our families attending Crawley Town’s home match against Forest Green Rovers. It was an excellent way to finish the week with some of our children fortunate to have been team mascots and flag bearers. We are extremely proud of all the children particularly on how they listened to the Crawley Town staff and observed the Remembrance Day minutes silence with such respect. Well done to all those penalty takers who scored against Reggie! We are excited to be working alongside Crawley Town FC again in the future as part of the Premier League Primary Stars Programme.
Crawley Town School of the Week November 2017
What a brilliant week we have had! The children enjoyed an assembly on Wednesday featuring one of the Crawley Town Players and Mascot, Reggie the Red. Over 100 children signed up for the after school, breakfast club and lunchtime club over the three sessions and enjoyed a range of football activities with the coaches. We had a Premier League Primary Stars lesson in Year 4 where the children looked at how the league values permeate through all sports as well as in the classroom. There will be more photos of these events posted on the school website next week. There are also leaflets available in the front entrance of the school giving details of coaching opportunities at the club for all ages.
Tri Golf
On Wednesday afternoon 18 children from Year 3 and Year 4 took part in a Tri golf festival at Imberhorne Upper school. It was an extremely hot afternoon and the children were kept busy through a range of golf challenges against the 5 minute timer. Well done to all those who participated, it was lots of fun.
Girls Football Tournament
On Wednesday afternoon we were very proud to take 2 teams of Year 5 girls to the East Grinstead Girls Football tournament. This event has grown considerably since it was launched last year with around 90 girls taking part. Huge congratulations to the girls who played their very best against some very tough opposition.
Dance Festival
Year 4 had a great afternoon on Wednesday at Sackville participating in the Primary School Dance Festival. The children performed alongside 8 other school in front of an audience of over 100 people. We are very proud of them all.
Mid Sussex Pop Lacrosse Champions!
We had a great afternoon at East Grinstead Sports Club on Wednesday at the Mid Sussex Pop Lacrosse Festival. All of the children enjoyed taking part in a skills based introduction initially before a series of 3 matches. These were high scoring and very exciting to watch. Once these matches were finished we were then put in a final match to determine overall positions. Both of our teams played brilliantly and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship towards the other schools. After a convincing win in the final over tough Mid Sussex rivals Harland's we were crowned champions! Thank you to our two journalists Jessica D and Jessica P for their support.
