Welcome to our Sports Page
Football League Round 2Both our A Teams and B Team Footballers were in action on Wednesday evening in the second round of the East Grinstead Primary Schools Football League. We are so proud of both teams who showed great effort and determination throughout their matches. The B Team were very unlucky with the result of their 1-0 defeat to Felbridge B. The A-team came away winners in their first very close match against The Meads A and unfortunately narrowly missed out on points against St Mary’s A losing 2-1. Well done to all of the players for trying your very best.
Crawley Town Football Club School of the Week November 2017
It was so lovely to see so many of our families attending Crawley Town’s home match against Forest Green Rovers. It was an excellent way to finish the week with some of our children fortunate to have been team mascots and flag bearers. We are extremely proud of all the children particularly on how they listened to the Crawley Town staff and observed the Remembrance Day minutes silence with such respect. Well done to all those penalty takers who scored against Reggie! We are excited to be working alongside Crawley Town FC again in the future as part of the Premier League Primary Stars Programme.
Crawley Town School of the Week November 2017
What a brilliant week we have had! The children enjoyed an assembly on Wednesday featuring one of the Crawley Town Players and Mascot, Reggie the Red. Over 100 children signed up for the after school, breakfast club and lunchtime club over the three sessions and enjoyed a range of football activities with the coaches. We had a Premier League Primary Stars lesson in Year 4 where the children looked at how the league values permeate through all sports as well as in the classroom. There will be more photos of these events posted on the school website next week. There are also leaflets available in the front entrance of the school giving details of coaching opportunities at the club for all ages.
On Wednesday afternoon 18 children from Year 3 and Year 4 took part in a Tri golf festival at Imberhorne Upper school. It was an extremely hot afternoon and the children were kept busy through a range of golf challenges against the 5 minute timer. Well done to all those who participated, it was lots of fun.
Girls Football Tournament
On Wednesday afternoon we were very proud to take 2 teams of Year 5 girls to the East Grinstead Girls Football tournament. This event has grown considerably since it was launched last year with around 90 girls taking part. Huge congratulations to the girls who played their very best against some very tough opposition.
Year 4 had a great afternoon on Wednesday at Sackville participating in the Primary School Dance Festival. The children performed alongside 8 other school in front of an audience of over 100 people. We are very proud of them all.
Mid Sussex Pop Lacrosse Champions!
We had a great afternoon at East Grinstead Sports Club on Wednesday at the Mid Sussex Pop Lacrosse Festival. All of the children enjoyed taking part in a skills based introduction initially before a series of 3 matches. These were high scoring and very exciting to watch. Once these matches were finished we were then put in a final match to determine overall positions. Both of our teams played brilliantly and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship towards the other schools. After a convincing win in the final over tough Mid Sussex rivals Harland's we were crowned champions! Thank you to our two journalists Jessica D and Jessica P for their support. Congratulations to you all.
Brambletye Cross Country
Well done to our Cross Country Runners who competed at Brambletye School on Friday afternoon. They completed a gruelling course around the stunning grounds of the school as part of a relay team. We are very proud of our runners, they all tried their very best and supported one another throughout. Thank you.
East Grinstead Lions Swimathon
Thank you for all of those children who came to the Kings Centre on Saturday evening to represent the school in the East Grinstead Lions Sponsored Swimathon. Our team of swimmers; Sammy, Jazz, Eva, Lois, Pippa and Tanya swam brilliantly and in the 25 min sponsored time managed to collectively complete an incredible 120 lengths of the 25m pool. A combined total of 3000m! The team impressed not only their supporters but members of the East Grinstead Lions who commented on their exemplary behaviour and achievements. If you have any sponsorship money or would like to make a donation to the team it’s not too late, please bring any donations into the school office where they will be gratefully received.
Year 3 and 4 Netball Tournament
Some pupils from Year 3 and Year 4 had a great afternoon in the sunshine at East Grinstead Sports Club on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Netball Festival. This event was an introduction to the sport and included watching a match, a circuit of different skill based activities and then the chance to apply these into a match situation. Lots of fun was had by all, see the photos below.
Double Netball Champions!
A huge congratulations to both of our Netball teams who were both announced league winner on Wednesday evening! The B Team continued their unbeaten run with an impressive 9-0 win against The Meads leading them to finish in top spot with an impressive 17 points – a remarkable achievement over the 5 league fixtures. Well done to all of those players who have played as part of the team over the duration of the league.
The A Team league was extremely close and the final meeting left three schools in contention for the league title. With St Peter’s facing the previously top place St Mary’s, everything was to play for. We started very strongly with a 4-0 lead finishing the first quarter. St Mary’s however fought back in the 2nd and 3rd quarter with the score line reaching 5-3 as we entered the final quarter. The team showed excellent dedication and determination. Our defence was exceptional and managed to make it very difficult for the attackers from St Marys, the final result was a victorious 6-3. This crucial result took us onto 13 points, level with both St Mary’s and Ashurst Wood. Consequently the finial league positions had to be decided on goal difference. With an impressive +37 goal difference St Peter’s were awarded the league title. They have now been put forward to represent the area in the Mid Sussex Finals on Monday 3rd April.
Thank you to our team of supporters and Mrs Wells and her team who helped to coach the team during Netball Club.
Quicksticks Hockey Tournament
On Wednesday morning our QuickSticks Hockey squad ventured to Downlands School, Hassocks for the Mid Sussex Quicksticks Hockey Tournament for Year 5 and 6. This stunning venue saw 17 teams from across mid Sussex competing in a 4 aside competition. We faced difficult opposition however the team showed excellent dedication.
‘Now we are playing Harlands B and Shaun, Noah, Jessica P and Neo played. Neo saved the ball and stopped the ball from getting in. We scored but it was disallowed! Neo dived once again! 1-0 to Harlands B but their hopes are still high and they are determined to win the next round.’
‘We are playing against St Josephs and Jessica, Neo, Shawn and Noah are playing. As quick as a flash we scored! 1-0 to us! Now shawn has scored 2-0 to us. 2-1 now!’
