St Peter’s Catholic Primary School is committed to caring for God’s creation by doing all we can to look after our environment.
1. We reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible.
2. We are making the school as energy efficient as possible by monitoring our gas and electricity use and by installing energy saving equipment.
3. We reduce the amount of water used by having push taps on wash basins, “water hippos” in toilet cisterns and water butts outside.
4. We reduce the amount of paper used in school by using both sides of pieces of paper; doing double-sided photocopying where possible; and printing out drafts on paper already used on one side.
5. We save energy by turning off lights and electrical equipment when we do not need them; we have a 'turn it off' policy
6. We put all our litter in the bin (recycling where possible)
7. We recycle silver foil, plastic bottles, paper, used ink cartridges, mobile ‘phones and provide collection bins.
8. We look after our school grounds and encourage wildlife.
9. We walk or cycle to school whenever possible. If we cannot, we try to car share.
10. We make our own compost by recycling our vegetable and fruit waste.
11. We try to purchase “green” products and services from suppliers who are committed to caring for the environment.
12. We are raising awareness of the environment by developing and publicising our environment trail to the school community, our parish and churches and people who live in East Grinstead.
The school is registered as taking part in the Eco-Schools programme organised by the Tidy Britain Group and achieved Green Award status in October 2009.
